The international subsea cable sector is booming. Today, more than 450 submarine cables carry about 95% (or more, the percentage is contentious and continually debated) of all international telecom service traffic, together with the ever-increasing data traffic generated by the hyperscale cloud companies and big streaming content providers.

Submarine cables in great dust. Investments in "underwater" digital infrastructure will exceed $10 billion by 2024 driven by increased demand for data traffic, according to Telegeography. The announcement of Exa Infrastructure is part of this scenario: the company will build a new Open Cable Landing Station in Mazara del Vallo, Sicily, to improve its current "landing" capacity (the point of "anchoring" cables to the mainland) and backhaul.
